Vibrancy and Contrast

This piece is part of a study on colour in the natural world. I used flowers as they are symbolic in many different cultures, and naturally come in lots of bright varieties. However, I wanted to make the flowers I used as part of this particularly vibrant, so I painted on them with unnatural colours and then photographed them before painting them in acrylic paint. This particular daffodil was my favourite because it naturally is quite bright and its robust petals stood up well to the paint. The work is a fusion of the traditional and the modern, which could either be seen as the young overtaking the old or the young honouring traditions depending on which way you look at it. There is a rebellious nature to the work but a lot of care has also been taken to recreate the details of the daffodil in a traditional style.
